So I went upmarket a bit.Īndonstar HDMI Microscope Not super cheap but very nice and very low latency. Pretty quickly I realized that USB through the PC/RasPi wouldn't cut it. I will wind up using this on my PC for general usage but the latency issue makes it borderline for general PCB assembly use. Second one "Plugable" Image Quality was OK and latency was a bit better - around 500 mS - on my fast PC. Latency was on the order of high hundreds of mS through my fast PC. Worked but image quality was pretty mediocre. I have now gone through 3 different Microscopes.

But then, I don't want to spend more than a grand on the scope alone.

I'd really like a Dino-lite AM5218MZT - 60 FPS, 5 Mpix, super low latency, metal body - way sweet. Spent a fair amount of time googling and looking at ebay/amazon ads. I've got a $30 2 Mpixel one coming but not confident it's going to work well enough. I will probably be feeding it through a RasPi Zero. Things like autofocus and power zoom not needed. So, anyone have a recommendations? I'd like to keep the budget under $100. slim package as it will need to fit next to the vacuum pen assembly.5 MPixel but may have to compromise on this.needs to focus in the range of 30-50 mm.10s of mS preferred, could probably live with 100 mS or worse. I could live with 15 but 30 is kind of the minimum. Probably will shoot for 10X but want a 2X-20X range. This will be used for a live view on a medium size LCD panel. I'm in the prelim stages of building a manual pick-and-place machine and one of the things that I am looking for is a decent inexpensive USB Microscope. I opened WinRAR and chose the driver.exe file. Not sure if this is right place for this. Hi, the driver file has an.exe extension. At the end of the manual it states, 'Please click dotnetfx to continue when the NET Framework 2.0 is necessary'. When I hover the mouse pointer over it, it says 'Net Framework'. On the microscope's driver disc auto.exe, there's a dotnetfx button. The moment I plugged in the microscope it said 'Software installed successfully'. I then tried this on a really old HP Compaq laptop running Windows 7 32 bit and it worked straight away.

I just tried this microscope on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop and got the same problem. Personally, if I had a Windows 7 computer, I would refuse the upgrade if I knew I would be purchasing a new computer after 2020. With all previous versions of Windows, you knew your device would work until end of support and in this case Windows 7 end of support is 2020 which is another 4 years from now. Since it is no longer supported, you are expected to purchase a new one. Any major Windows 10 update can render your device such as your microscope or printer useless. Microsoft specifically says that Windows 10 will be free until your device is no longer supported. Edit: I would also like to point out that the reversion to Windows 7 from Windows 10 has not been a smooth one for some people.Įdit: This is the problem I have with Windows 10.

I can't say the software will install a Windows 10 driver or not. I did a search on the Vendor and Device ID and could not find a Windows 10 driver but I did find the search led me to page. Your only hope is to either wait for Windows 10 to supply a driver or revert back to Windows 7 if the upgrade was less than 30 days.

Unfortunately the drivers included with the device will only work up to Windows 7 or possibly 8.
